A discussion of the necessary steps needed to port Vicidial to Asterisk 13 and AMI version 2+. Vicidial is an Asterisk based application dating to before Asterisk 1.0 was even released. There is a large amount of code to deal with the various idiocentricities of early Asterisk versions and long standing assumptions of how Asterisk handles certain functionality. Many of these aspects have changed in recent Asterisk versions. For instance Local channels no longer optimize in the same manner. As such several core processes within Vicidial have needed a complete rewrite to deal with these changes. This discussion will go over the changes that were necessary to get Vicidial to function properly with Asterisk 13. Key points that will be discussed: * Overview of how Vicidial's core functions * Changes to the AMI and how it affected the core * Changes to how Local channels behave and the steps necessary to deal with the changes * Dealing with under documented, legacy code written 14 years prior * Lessons learned
